The team here at beeps has come a long way in reimagining on-call. Our goal of creating a modern on-call platform wouldn’t be possible without the amazing engineers that are working behind the scenes to perfect our product.  While our mission is underway, we wanted to take some time to highlight the individuals that are building beeps from the ground up.

Introducing Cristina:

I'm a software engineer at beeps, and I’ve been with the company for a year now. I hail from the vibrant city of Bucharest, Romania. When I’m not coding, you'll find me racing down trails on my bike or enjoying some good old-fashioned gaming.

How did you get started in your field?

My journey into software engineering started with a childhood obsession with video games. I wasn’t just playing Mario and Bomberman for fun—I was always curious about what made those pixelated worlds work. As I got older, my interest in math and technology deepened. In 7th grade, I discovered HTML, and that’s when my fascination with coding really took off. In high school, I had a great computer science teacher who fueled my passion even more. By then, I knew I wanted to pursue a degree in Mathematics and Computer Science.

What challenges are your peers facing in this field?

On-call rotations in software engineering definitely come with their challenges. Being the one responsible for fixing critical issues under tight deadlines can be stressful, especially when an unexpected incident hits you in the middle of the night. The constant unpredictability keeps engineers on their toes—never knowing when the next alert will pop up or what chaos it might bring.

Thankfully, at beeps, we’ve got a system in place to make it a little easier. Every on-call engineer gets a buddy—the beeps assistant—kind of like having a sidekick to help fight bugs and keep things running smoothly (and keep you sane!).

Why beeps?

When I first met Joey, our founder, what really struck me was his passion and the potential he saw in his idea. He wasn’t just another excited engineer with a dream—he was determined to build something that genuinely mattered in a market that desperately needed innovation. I knew I wanted to be part of it. The chance to help shape something from the ground up, to truly own the code and see the impact of my work, was exactly what I was looking for. That’s why I’m drawn to startups—there’s nothing like getting hands-on and seeing your contributions make a real difference.

Do you have any secret talents?

It’s not exactly a secret, but I’m pretty good at beer pong—I’ve been on a solid winning streak with my friends. Oh, and I used to be quite good at first-person shooters. At my peak, I ranked in the top 500 in Europe, so I guess you could say my reflexes are pretty sharp.

If you weren’t an engineer, what career path would you have pursued?

If I hadn’t pursued engineering, I’d probably have gone down a more creative path—maybe as an artist or exploring architecture. The idea of designing spaces and structures has always fascinated me, and with the architecture faculty right next to mine, it was always in the back of my mind. I’ve even played around with 3D modeling, which gave me a taste of how fun and challenging that world can be. Both art and architecture blend creativity with technical skill, which feels like the perfect balance for me.
